COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Terrapin head coach Gary Williams and junior point guard John Gilchrist are currently featured in the lead story on ESPN.com's men's college basketball page. ESPN.com senior writer and college basketball analyst Andy Katz examine's the relationship of the coach and his floor general.
Williams, a former Terrapin point guard himself, has always enjoyed a special bond with his floor leaders. Katz believes that Williams and Gilchrist, both fiery and intense competitiors, might be a perfect match to drive the Terrapins to a 2005 Final Four run.
"The Williams-Gilchrist relationship has worked quite well -- so much so that Maryland's ACC tournament title win over Duke last March (behind Gilchrist's 26 points, seven rebounds and six assists) should be viewed as the precursor to a potential Final Four in 2005," writes Katz.

The Terrapins, who return 11 letterwinners from a team that posted a 20-12 record a season ago and made an 11th-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, are ranked at No. 10 this preseason according to ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale. They begin the season with two exhibition games on Nov. 5 and 13 and tip-off against Jackson St. on Nov. 19 to officially open their schedule.
Midnight Madness, which marks the start of the 2004-05 basketball season, will be celebrated this Friday, Oct. 15, at Comcast Center.
