JG x 2! Gilchrist And Gist Post Double-Doubles At Red-Black Scrimmage

Nov. 10, 2004

Junior point guard John Gilchrist and freshman forward James Gist put forward double-double efforts at the Terrapins' most recent Red-Black scrimmage, dazzling a crowd of more than 500 Terp fans at Comcast Center.

The Terrapins, many of which jumped from the Red team to the Black team and back again over the course of the evening, put their athleticism on display Wednesday evening. Officially the Red team, led by junior Nik Caner-Medley's 27 points, five rebounds and six steals, wrapped up the night with a 93-66 victory.

Junior guard Chris McCray, who split time between squads, had 25 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals. Backcourt mate Gilchrist, who played the scrimmage's entire 40 minutes, finished with 16 points, 10 assists and six steals.

In the post, rookie Gist totaled 16 points as well and a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore Ekene Ibekwe scored 15 and grabbed six boards, while Travis Garrison had 14 and eight and Hassan Fofana registered 14 and four.

Head coach Gary Williams was pleased with the overall effort of his team.

"I thought we did some good things, made some really great plays and I thought John Gilchrist played hard. He played the whole 40 minutes and I thought he played pretty well," Williams said."I thought Chris McCray shot it pretty well also.

Both Hassan Fofana and Will Bowers are making progress, they are playing a little more aggressively. Between those two guys, we have two big people that can really help us when the game gets physical. I think Ekene Ibekwe has played consistent for us over time. We are getting there."
