TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of Maryland baseball dropped the final game in its three-game series with Florida State University, 13-6, this afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahasse, Fla.
After falling behind, 2-0, in the first, the Terrapins came roaring back in the second to take a 4-2 lead. Maryland had the bases loaded with two outs in the inning when sophomore Matt Maropis doubled down the right field line to bring in three runs. Senior Anthony Buffone followed that up with a double of his own to score Maropis.
The Seminoles scored three runs in the third inning to regain their lead, but the Terps fought back to tie the game at 5-5 in the fourth. Junior Truan Mehl led off the inning with a double and came around to score when junior Elliot Singletary hit a double of his own later in the inning.
Florida State blasted back in the fifth inning with eight runs to take a 13-5 lead over the Terrapins. Fielding errors cost the Terps in the inning, as only one of those eight runs in the inning was earned.
Maryland scored a run in the seventh inning when Buffone came around when sophomore Brian Jarosinski reached base on a Seminole error. Buffone led the Terrapins with a 3-for-5 performance against Florida State. Junior Kevin Hart had a pair of hits in the game.
Freshman Dan Waters and junior Justin Hulse each pitched scoreless innings in relief against the Seminoles.
Maryland will be in action next when they travel to Harrisonburg, Va., where they will take on James Madison University at Long Field/Mauck Stadium on Wednesday, March 24, at 2:30 p.m.
