Box Score

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Twelve different Maryland Terrapins scored a goal as the Terps defeated Temple, 22-4, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Maryland advances to the quarterfinals where they will face Georgetown, who defeated Duke 13-12 in overtime in the first round. The site and time of that game will be announced Friday morning.

Kelly Coppedge led all scorers with seven points on five goals and two assists. Acacia Walker had six points on four assists (tying her career-high) and two goals. Brooke Richards and Delia Cox added hat tricks for the Terps. Jessica Dorney set a career-high with four assists to go with one goal.

After two goals within the first two minutes of action from Coppedge and Walker, Temple won the draw and promptly scored on a Tiffany Pulaski goal. From there, though, it was all Maryland as the Terrapins closed out the first half with nine straight goals. Coppedge scored three goals in the first half while Walker, Cox and Brooke Richards all tallied a pair of goals in that frame. Jessica Dorney added a score and Molly Lambert notched her second goal of the season as Maryland took an 11-1 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Owls put up a quick score to make it 11-2, and would counter Maryland's scoring through the first 17 minutes of the second half with the score being 14-4 with 13 minutes left. However, the Terps proved to be too much scoring the game's last eight goals. Highlighting the run was a behind-the-back goal from senior Jenny Marmion - her first goal as a Terp - with just 27 seconds remaining in the game. Also during that run freshman Jen Greenberg tallied a goal and freshman Meghan Higgins notched the first goal of her career.

A major reason the Terps were able to dominate possession was their ability to win the draws - especially Walker. Maryland won 21 of 27 draws and Walker snagged a game-high eight herself. When Maryland was not winning the draw, though, its pressure forced 18 of Temple's 25 turnovers. Coppedge caused three turnovers, while Walker, Lambert, Megan Sommar, Krista Pellizzi and Martha Raver all caused two each.

With the win, Maryland advances to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 15th consecutive season. The Terps will face Georgetown, a team they defeated 13-8 earlier this season.

Coppedge's seven points give her 296 for her career. Should she get four more points, she would become just the 14th player in Division I history to have 300 career points.
