Terps Defend Men's Golf Title at The McLaughlin

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Sophomore Tyler Witman shot an even-par 70 to finish at 212, earning medalist honors and leading the University of Maryland to the team title at The McLaughlin men's golf tournament held at Bethpage State Park's Red Course.
The individual title was Witman's first as a collegian. His 54-hole total was 2-over-par and was one stroke over teammate Matt Schall, who shot a 68 on Saturday's final round to finish second.
As a team, Maryland shot 277 on Saturday to finish with a 54-hole total of 853. The Terps won this event for the second straight year.
Maryland won the team title by a stunning 22 strokes, as host Saint John's shot a final-round 282 to pass three teams and finish at 875. Boston College was third with Temple and Connecticut in fourth and fifth.
The Terrapins placed four players among the top seven on the individual list. Freshman J.J. Occi shot a final-round 68 to tie for third at 214, while John Eades tied for sixth at 216 after a 71 on Sunday. Bobby MacWhinnie placed 35th at 229 for the Terps. Hunter Bendall, playing as an individual, tied for ninth at 219.
Maryland next plays on Oct. 9 and 10 at the James Madison Invitational.
