Basketball Season Begins with Maryland Madness

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland Basketball begins its 2005-06 campaign with Maryland Madness on Friday, October 14th at Comcast Center. All tickets have been distributed for the annual basketball celebration.
Gates for the general public will open at 6:30 p.m., with ceremonies scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Performances by the Maryland Dance Team, the varsity competitive cheer squad and the famous Gymkana Troupe will be on the schedule, along with an alumni game.
The 2005-06 Terrapin men's and women's teams will be introduced to the public that night, with both teams having a limited scrimmage. Maryland Madness is scheduled to end around 10:40 p.m.
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Food Drive
Fans are encouraged to bring canned food items as a donation to the Capital Area Food Bank. Drop locations will be situated inside the Comcast Center entrances, manned by members of Maryland's Student-Athlete Advisory Council and staff from the Terps' Academic Support and Career Development unit. Fans donating a canned food item will receive a voucher for a free small popcorn, courtesy of University Dining Services (while supplies last).
Pepsi Promotions
The first 5,000 students will receive a free Maryland Madness T-shirt, courtesy of Pepsi. Hidden in four of those shirts will be an invitation to participate in an on-court contest where one lucky student will win a brand-new car - a Scion tC.
