• The Maryland basketball team had six players reach double figures and tipped off the 2005-06 regular season with a 111-85 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Friday night at Comcast Center.

• Under Gary Williams, Maryland is 14-3 in season openers, including a perfect 4-0 at Comcast Center. Maryland is 58-25 all-time in season openers, dating to 1923. The Terrapins have also defeated 22 straight non-conference opponents at home.

• The 111 points marked the most points scored in a season opener since a 113-46 win over Western Carolina on Nov. 14, 1998. Maryland is 100-2 all-time when scoring at least 100 points.

• All 12 Terrapins saw playing time; 10 got on the scoreboard while nine players recorded at least one rebound and one assist. Junior college transfer Parrish Brown and freshman Dave Neal each recorded their first points as Terrapins.

• Maryland drained 32-of-38 free throws as Chris McCray, Nik Caner-Medley, Ekene Ibekwe, Mike Jones and James Gist hit all 24 shots they attempted from the charity stripe.

• Six Terrapins reached double figures in tonight's game with Mike Jones' 22 points leading the way. Last year, 6 players reached double digits in five games.

• The Terps' 25 assists is the highest total in more than one year. D.J. Strawberry had a career-high five assists and Jones had three assists to tie a career high. Maryland recorded assists on 14 of its 19 2nd-half field goals, matching their 2nd half total in their exhibition win over Virginia Union.

Ekene Ibekwe scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half, hitting 4-of-6 field goals and all five free throws he attempted.

James Gist scored Maryland's first field goal of the season on a one-handed hook shot with 19:43 remaining in the first half.

• Maryland's defense set the tone early, recording four steals and one block in the opening four minutes.

• Displaying a balanced offensive attack, five different players scored Maryland's first five field goals. The Terps recorded five assists on their first seven field goals

• Nine Terrapins saw first-half action, eight of whom got on the scoreboard and seven registered assists. Maryland hit 15 of 17 free throws in the first half.

• After missing its first two three-point field goals, Maryland drained three of their final five first-half treys. During the final 11 minutes of the first half, Maryland outrebounded the Knights 14-6.

• Maryland used a 15-3 run over 3:53 to take a 33-22 lead with eight minutes remaining in the half. Five Terrapins recorded field goals during the spurt.

• McCray led the Terps in the opening frame with 12 points, including a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.

• Maryland's 52 first-half points was the first time the Terrapins scored more than 50 first-half points since they put up the same total against Liberty on Dec. 28, 2004.

• Maryland scored the first seven points of the second half to open up a 59-42 lead with 18:22 remaining. The Terps went on a 11-0 run over a 3:00 stretch spanning the half.

• Maryland got off to fast starts in each half, scoring 15 points before the first media timeout in each half.

• FDU made only two of its first 13 field goal attempts to open the second half.

• Maryland recorded 11 steals in the game. Last season, the Terps had double-digit thefts in 10 games.
