The Maryland women's swimming and diving team added two wins to their ACC record with a win over Miami 139-96 and Duke 134-109 bringing them to 5-2, 3-2 ACC. The men fell to the Blue Devils 126-115 bringing them to 2-4, 0-4 ACC.
The women's team picked up eight win against the Hurricanes and Blue Devils. Freshman Yelena Skalinskaya (Almaty, Kazakhstan) led the women picking up wins in the 50-free (23.89) and the 100-free (51.86).
Other individual winners for the Terps included junior Sasha Malanina (Volgograd, Russia) in the 1000-free (10:10.85), sophomore Maya Finkler (Rishon-le-zion, Israel) in the 200-free (1:52.74), and junior Erica Suguiyama (Ijamsville, Md.) in the 200-fly (2:06.44). Senior Krisztina Kovacs remained undefeated in the 200-breast winning in a time of 2:17.64.
The Terps also swept the relays, with the 400-medley relay team of Levavi, Kovacs, Sumrall and Skalinskaya winning in 3:51.52, and the 400-free relay team of Finkler, Laputka, Sumrall and Suguiyama winning in 3:32.10.
On the men's side, sophomores Martin Ott (Bayreuth, Germany) and Stefan Geisen (Lahnstein, Germany), and junior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) each notched two wins against the Blue Devils. Ott won the 200-IM (1:53.08) and the 200-back (1:52.94), Geisen won the 200-free (1:43.18) and the 200-fly (1:55.43), and Gray won the 50-free (20.97) and the 100-free (46.57).
Senior Pat Doyle finished second behind Geisen in the 200-free with a time of 1:44.14, while sophomore Ken Golaszewski (Boulder, Colo.) picked up a second-place finish in the 1000-free (10:00.97).
On the boards, sophomores Jason Eccleston (Reisterstown, Md.) and Derek Hock (Aliquippa, Pa.) finished two-three on the 3 meter board with scores of 258.65 and 254.90 respectively.
The Terps return to the pool in two weeks at the annual Terrapin Cup Invitational beginning at 10 a.m. on Nov. 17 at the Campus Recreation Center.
