
Terps Finish 22nd At NCAA Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 12 Maryland women's swimming and diving team finished 22nd at the NCAA Championships with 40 points. The Terps were the highest-finishing ACC team. Georgia unseated three-time defending champion Auburn to take home the national title, scoring 609.5. Auburn was a distant second (492), followed by Arizona (440), Florida (355) and Stanford (313).
Maryland's 400-yard freestyle relay team of seniors Chrissy Miller (Seaside Park, N.J.), Cynthia Weir (Irwin, Pa.), Megan Knepper (Williamsport, Md.) and Marina Mulyayeva (Almaty, Kazakhstan) placed 16th in 3:23.01.
Senior Elizabeth Lavell (Annapolis, Md.) finished 18th in the 1,650-free (16:25.51), while sophomore Sasha Malanina (Volgograd, Russia) came in 39th (17:10.91). At the morning preliminaries, Knepper placed 22nd in the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.85), and junior Krisztina Kovacs (Budapest, Hungary) finished 27th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.68). Miller and Weir placed 46th and 53rd, respectively, in the 100-free with times of 50.82 and 51.05.
