COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's basketball team enters Saturday's game against Virginia Tech with a 16-10 record, still in the hunt for fourth place in the ACC and a 12th-straight NCAA Tournament bid. Several Terrapins have played well down the stretch, and are now candidates for league honors, which will be announced next week.

Chris McCray

  • One of the most consistent Terrapins, McCray is always charged with defending the opponent's best perimeter player, yet he remained among the ACC's Top 25 scorers all season (13.8 ppg overall, 14.1 ppg in conference games).
  • The ACC's top free throw shooter at 94.2 percent (81-for-86), McCray ranks second in the nation in success from the charity stripe.
  • Among ACC leaders in steals (eighth, 1.8 per game) and assists (11th, 3.0 per game).
  • He is ranked ninth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.55).
  • Last seven games: 18.4 ppg, 4.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals, .465 FG pct., .469 3-point FG pct.
  • Scored in double figures in 20-of-25 games this season, including a career-high 25 vs. No. 2 North Carolina on Feb. 27.
  • In two games defending Duke's J.J. Redick, McCray forced the Blue Devil guard and ACC Player of the Year candidate into shooting 12-for-40 from the field (30 percent), 6-for-20 from 3-point range (30 percent) and committing 11 turnovers (5.5 per game).

  • He has led Maryland in scoring 12 times on the season and tallied nine games of 20-plus scoring performances.
  • He is also ranked among ACC leaders in field goal percentage (ninth, .481) rebounding (16th, 6.1 rpg) and free throw shooting (10th, .77 percent).
  • Last 14 games: 19.1 ppg, 7.1 rebounds, 48 percent field goal shooting, 35 percent 3-point shooting.
  • He posted two double-doubles against ACC opponents: 15 points, 10 rebounds vs. NC State (Jan. 23) and 19 points, 11 rebounds at Virginia (Feb. 19).
  • Season and career-high 35 points vs. Temple (Jan. 15) ranks as ACC's fourth-best individual performance of the season.
  • He was named ESPN.com's National Player of the Week (Jan. 31) after averaging 22.0 ppg, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks in victories over No. 2 Duke and No. 22 Georgia Tech.

  • Terps' point guard is third in the league in assists (5.5 per game) and second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2).
  • He is also among league leaders in scoring (18th, 14.3 ppg), rebounding (19th, 5.2 per game) and free throw percentage (13th, 74 percent).
  • He scored his 1,000th-career point against No. 2 North Carolina (Feb. 27).
  • Last six games: 15.3 ppg, 6.2 assists, 6.0 rebounds, 40.6 percent shooting from the field and 44.0 percent shooting from long range.
  • Has led the Terps in scoring 10 times this season.
  • Posted 20 games of double-figure scoring, tallying 20-plus points six times.
