Pregame Quotes: Maryland at Virginia Tech

March 4, 2005

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Virginia Tech Pregame Quotes:

Maryland Head Coach Gary Williams

On Turning 60:

"It Feels good still being here. You think about how lucky you are, because you are still doing what you like to do."

On his team's chances for an NCAA Bid:

"We're in a great position. Anytime you can play a game that means something at the end of the season, it's not all that bad. We get a chance to be the fourth seed behind three teams ranked in the top-10 in the country."

On five teams in the ACC with seven wins:

"Those top three teams have separated themselves a little bit. You have teams like Miami, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and NC State that are all battling for a spot. There's been no easy week in the league, where if you don't play well, you can still win. It hasn't happened for anyone in the league."

On Cassell Coliseum:

"They have a good crowd and it is a small arena. Both Miami and Virginia Tech came into the league with something to prove when everybody said they weren't going to win a game."

Maryland Forward Mike Grinnon

On having a week off to prepare for Virginia Tech:

"It is good to have a couple of days to get back to the basics and go over the things that win games."

On the pressure of winning Saturday:

"We just have to take it as any other game. This team has played well in big games this year and we know it is a must win game. I am pretty confident we are going to step up."

On facing Virginia Tech for the second time this season:

"It comes down to who works harder and does the little things. If we can play some good defense, we'll be in good shape."

Maryland Forward Travis Garrison

On the need for a win:

"We just got to go down there and play tough. Virginia Tech is a tough team and they have a sense of urgency too. I think if we play 40 minutes hard, I think we can take care of business."

On the first game against vs. Virginia Tech:

"We played tough. We executed our offense and controlled their big guys. That is what we need to do Saturday."
