COLLEGE PARK, Md. - When the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament comes to Washington, D.C., March 10-13, Terrapin Sports Marketing, Maryland Basketball and the University of Maryland's Team Terrapin partners are letting spectators know just whose backyard they're visiting.
For the month of March, tournament-goers, commuters and visitors to the MCI Center who use the Gallery Place Metro station will have no doubt they're in Terps' territory as the "Fear the Turtle" and Maryland Basketball-themed messages will saturate all of the station's banner, poster and diorama inventory.
"We're excited to be able to utilize our Viacom assets to promote Maryland Basketball together with our Team Terrapin partners in such a unique manner," said Christopher Janush, general manager for Terrapin Sports Marketing.
The station saturation project is supported by Team Terrapin partners Chevy Chase Bank, Constellation Energy, Legg Mason and Toyota. This elite group of corporate partners has made a significant, long-term commitment to Maryland Athletics and benefits from special marketing opportunities like this one. In addition to signage that includes all four sponsors, each partner will have several individual posters and dioramas that showcase their message and support of the Terrapins.
"Constellation Energy is very pleased to be the energy partner for the Maryland Terrapins and is excited about promoting our relationship via the Gallery Place saturation," said Malinda Small, managing director of Brand Implementation & Corporate Contributions for Constellation Energy. "We are thrilled to have the tournament in D.C. and look forward to great basketball."
The saturation includes 27 posters, 26 backlit dioramas and four banners that will be seen by more than 35,000 travelers who use the stop each day, as well as the majority of the more than 120,000 fans who will be attending the ACC Tournament. The Gallery Place Metro station provides red line service to Northwest Washington, D.C., and Montgomery County, Md.; green line service to D.C. and Prince George's County, Md.; and yellow line service to Northern Virginia.
"It's been almost 20 years since the ACC Tournament was held in the D.C. area, so the interest level is very high," said Janush. "With Maryland defending its title here in our back yard, we're thrilled to help our partners promote their association with Terrapin Basketball and capitalize on this excitement."
