Terrapins Tie for Sixth at LSU Men's Golf Tourney

BATON ROUGE, La. - Sophomore Hunter Bendall, making the most of his new insertion in the Terrapin lineup, tied for 14th individually and led the University of Maryland to a tie for sixth place in the team competition Sunday at the LSU Spring Invitational men's golf tournament.

Bendall, playing in his second significant event of the spring, closed with a round of 76 to finish the 54-hole tournament at 221, the low scorer for the Terrapins. He opened Friday with an even-par 72, matching sophomore transfer Tully Coyle for the best round of the event by a Maryland player.

John Eades tied for 22nd, two shots behind Bendall, closing the tournament with matching rounds of 73 over the 7,274-yard University Club layout. Tyler Witman and Matt Schall tied for 46th at 227, while Coyle rallied for a 228 total and a tie for 55th.

Overall, Maryland shot a 295 as a team on Sunday, finishing with 893. The Terrapins tied for sixth in a field of 17 schools that included mostly schools from the southeast.

Host LSU won the team competition at 865, firing 283 on Sunday to win by six strokes. Lamar University was second at 871. Individually, LSU's Beck Troutman shot 211 to win medalist honors by two shots over Julian Colmenares of Jacksonville State, who fired a 69 Sunday to close at 213.
