UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - John Eades of the University of Maryland fired an 8-under-par 64 in the final round Saturday to win the Rutherford Intercollegiate men's golf tournament hosted by Penn State on its Blue Course.

Eades finished with a three-round total of 200, which was 16-under-par. He won the individual title by seven strokes over his nearest competitor, Robert Rohanna of Penn State. Eades opened the day with a one-shot lead in the race for medalist honors, shooting 69 and 67 in Friday's two rounds.

The individual title was Eades' second of the spring season, as he won the Princeton Invitational on April 8 and 9.

His effort led the Terps from sixth to second place in the team standings in a crucial tournament. Maryland rallied with a 279 team total Saturday to cut 11 shots off its previous-best 18-hole team score of the spring.

The Terps finished at 861, trailing only the host Nittany Lions, who posted an 843. Maryland was behind some NCAA District 2 rivals heading into the final day, with the Rutherford being the Terrapins' final scheduled event before NCAA Regional berths are announced.

Also for Maryland, Tyler Witman shot a 72 Saturday to tie for 27th at 220. Tully Coyle and Hunter Bendall tied for 32nd with a 221 total, with Matt Schall in a tie for 51st at 225.
