Senior Gigi deToll came to the University of Maryland in the fall of 2003 from Culpeper, Virginia. She is a two-time ACC Champion in the 100-yard butterfly, two-time NCAA Championship qualifier, and Olympic Trial competitor. In her two ACC-title swims, she broke the school record for the 100 fly in 2004 (53.66) and broke the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center pool record for the 100 fly in 2005 (53.77). She was named an Honorable Mention All-American for the 100 fly and 200 medley relay in 2005. Going into her final year as a Terp, deToll talks about her time at Maryland, future plans and what mark she hopes to leave behind for the team.
Question: What is your greatest memory from your time at Maryland?
Gigi deToll: My greatest memory is being a part of the first women's team at Maryland to win an ACC Championship in 2005.
Q: Do you have plans for next year?
deToll: Yes, I am going to graduate school at the University of Mary Washington, where I (hopefully) will be a Graduate Assistant for their swimming program.
Q: Who is your greatest role model?
deToll: My Dad. He is a fighter and never gives up hope. He always looks at the positive side even when there potentially might not be one, and he is so forgiving. I hope to be like that.
Q: What is something you do before every meet?
deToll: Pray.
Q: What is something interesting about yourself that most people don't know?
deToll: I am a proud "mom" of an 8 month old puggle named Maggie!
Q:Have you ever played any other sports?
deToll: Yes, I danced for a long time and also tried soccer.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
deToll: I love to shop and spend time with my puggle, Maggie.
Q: What would you say is your role on the team this season as a senior?
deToll: I would say giving advice; helping the underclassmen learn through my experiences and/or my mistakes. I just try to be myself, which is honest. I hope to make a good impact on the girls who will be representing Maryland as a school after I am gone.
Q: Give me three words to describe you.
deToll: Compassionate, Devoted, Tired.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Maryland?
deToll: My friends, my teammates, and the people I have grown to know through being here. Also, the campus is so pretty in the spring!
