COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland men's basketball program added to its list of signees, as the Terps received National Letters of Intent from shooting guard Adrian Bowie (Greenbelt, Md./Montrose Christian) and power forward Shane Walker (Alexandria, Va./Montrose Christian). Bowie and Walker join forward Dino Gregory (Baltimore, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) and center Braxton Dupree (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) who signed with Maryland on Thursday.
Walker posted 14.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game during his junior season at Bishop Ireton, where he played for current Terrapin assistant coach Chuck Driesell. Walker will play his senior season at Montrose Christian with Bowie. A 6-foot-10 power forward, he recorded 7.2 points, and 8.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore. A native of North Hampton, England, he chose Maryland over Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt.
"Shane is 6-10 and has great mobility for a guy his size," said head coach Gary Williams. "He has made great strides the past two years and with his combination of size and athleticism, he can be an outstanding player for us."
Bowie helped Montrose Christian finish 20-2 during his junior season, as he averaged 14.7 points per game. A three-year starter for the nationally ranked Mustangs, he played with current Terrapin Greivis Vasquez and will team with Walker for his senior season. A 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard, Bowie averaged 14.7 points and 3.6 assists per game as a junior. He was named third team All-Met 2006 by The Washington Post. He chose Maryland over Florida State, Michigan and Texas.
"Adrian has played on a great team at Montrose Christian the past few years, and will continue to be a focal point for them this season," noted Williams. "He has the ability to contribute immediately to our program."
The National Letter of Intent early signing period is November 8-15. The Terps' 2006-07 roster features six seniors, including Will Bowers, Parrish Brown, Gini Chukura, Ekene Ibekwe, Mike Jones and D.J. Strawberry.
