Terps Host High Point on Friday

Maryland plays host to High Point on Friday (Nov. 24) at Comcast Center. The game can be heard on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio (Channel 191). The contest will be televised locally on Comcast SportsNet. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m.
• Maryland is 6-0 for the first time since the 1998-99 season. The Terps jumped out of the gate to a 10-0 start that season and finished the year 28-6.
• High Point carries a mark of 3-2 into Friday's game. The Panthers recorded a 75-59 victory over Chowan on Wednesday. The game began Tuesday night but was forced to resume on Wednesday due to a power outage. Mike Jefferson scored a game-high 16 points, while Arizona Reid tallied 14 for the Panthers.

The Terrapins enter Friday's game off a 71-60 win over Winthrop. The Terps jumped out to a double-digit lead midway through the first period and built their lead to as many as 26 points en route to the win.
• The victory over Winthrop gave the Terrapins back-to-back wins over 2006 NCAA Tournament teams, after Maryland downed Michigan State last Friday (Nov. 17).
• Junior Bambale Osby posted a season-high 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor. The junior college transfer added a personal-best seven rebounds in 16 minutes of action in the win over the Eagles.
• Senior D.J. Strawberry tied his career high with eight rebounds against Winthrop. He scored 11 points, marking the ninth consecutive game in which he has scored in double figures.

The Terps have relied on their defense in each of their first five games. Maryland has forced its opponents into an average of 20.2 turnovers per game through the first six games of the season. Maryland forced its opponents into an average of 16.7 assists per game in 2005-06.
• Maryland has held its last four opponents to 60 points or less. The Terps are yielding just 25.5 points in the first half and limiting the opposition to 33 percent shooting from the field. Maryland's opponents are shooting just 22 percent (32-of-141) from three-point range.
• The Terps are averaging 8.2 steals per game and have recorded 47 blocked shots through six games.

Maryland returned to the national top 25 polls on Monday, November 20. The Terps entered the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll ranked 24th in the country. Maryland was ranked 25th in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, released November 20.
• It was the first time since January 23, 2006 that the Terps were ranked in both polls.
• Maryland has appeared in the AP Top 25 a total of 334 times. The Terrapins have placed in the AP Top 25 at least once in each of the last 14 seasons.
• The Terps have been ranked in the coaches poll 307 times. Maryland has placed in the coaches poll at least once in each of the last 14 seasons.
• The Terrapins are ranked fourth in the November 22 Sagarin Ratings.
• Maryland was tabbed 12th in this week's CNNSI.com Power 16 rankings.

The Terrapins will be one of the busiest teams in the month of November, as Maryland will play a school-record eight games in the opening month of the season.
• Maryland's previous high was seven games during November of 1998.
• The Terps are 56-10 (.848) all-time in November under Gary Williams.

Maryland has opened the season 6-0 for the first time since the 1998-99 season when the Terps started the year 10-0.
• Maryland's best start under Gary Williams is 11-0 (1996-97).
• The Terps are averaging 83.5 points per game this season and allowing just 62.0.
• Maryland has trailed for just 2:12 of 240:00 this season.
• Maryland has limited its opponents to 33 percent shooting from the field. The Terps have held their opponents to just 24 percent (27-of-113) from three-point range.

The Terrapins opened the season with a 102-75 win over Hampton. It is the second consecutive season in which the Terps opened with a 100-point performance. Maryland scored a 111-85 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson.
• Maryland has 103 100-point games, including 42 under Gary Williams.
• The Terrapins recorded a school-record four consecutive 100-point games during the 2000-01 season.
• The Terps recorded eight 100-point games during the 1974 and 1975 seasons.
• Maryland has allowed its opponents to score 100 points 33 times.

Four Terrapins are rapidly climbing the school's all-time record book. Seniors D.J. Strawberry, Ekene Ibekwe, and Mike Jones have all made their mark in the Terrapin annals, along with junior James Gist:
• Strawberry ranks 11th in school history with 149 career steals. He was named Honorable Mention All-ACC Defensive Team in 2005-06.
• Ibekwe sits in seventh place on the school's all-time blocked shots list. The Carson, Calif., native has 158 career rejections at Maryland and has averaged 1.7 blocked shots per game.
• Ibekwe needs two rebounds to move into the top 30 of the all-time rebounding list at Maryland. He has tallied 570 rebounds through three seasons with the Terps.
• Senior Mike Jones has distinguished himself as one of the best shooters in the ACC and has rapidly moved up the school's all-time three pointers list. Jones has totaled 134 three-point field goals and sits in seventh place on the school's all-time list. Jones has hoisted 346 shots from beyond the arc, which is the eighth highest total in school history.
• Gist has totaled 96 blocked shots during his three seasons in College Park. He is 12th on the school's all-time list and has averaged 1.4 blocks per game.

Maryland captured the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic Championship with a 62-60 win over Michigan State on November 17 at Madison Square Garden. The victory over the Spartans moved Maryland's all-time record to 100-38 (.723) in regular season tournaments. The Terps have appeared in 61 regular season tournaments and have captured 28 championships.
• Maryland is 5-1 in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic after winning the 2006 Championship. The Terrapins went 1-1 in their only other appearance during the 2001-02 season. The Terps fell to Arizona (71-67) before defeating Temple (82-74).
• The Terps went 2-0 in Madison Square Garden with wins over St. John's and Michigan State. Maryland is now 11-4 all-time in games played at the world's most famous arena. Gary Williams is 6-3 as head coach of the Terps in MSG.

Maryland has proven to be one of the nation's most proficient 3-point shooting teams since the rule was instituted in 1987.
• Maryland has made at least one 3-pointer in 258 consecutive games.
• Maryland has failed to make a 3-pointer just twice in the last 349 games.
• The last game the Terps failed to make a 3-pointer was Jan 7, 1999 when Maryland went 0-for-7 from 3-point range in a 71-66 win at Virginia.
• Since Gary Williams took over, Maryland has hit a 3-pointer in 543-of-550 games.
• Since the rule was instituted in 1987, Maryland has hit at least one three-pointer in 601-of-610 games.
• Maryland made a school-record 217 treys in 2001-02.
• The Terps' top 3-point shooting percentage was 46.1% (122-290) in 1987-88.
• Maryland's record for 3-pointers in a game is 13: vs. North Carolina (1/9/02) and William & Mary (12/27/01).
• The most 3-pointers attempted in a single game was 31 vs. Clemson (1/22/00).

Maryland is 44-46 all-time in overtime games. Even though the Terps have not played an overtime game during the 2006-07 season, Maryland has played at least one overtime game in 12 of the last 13 seasons, including each of the last for years.
• Maryland is 22-17 in overtime games played at home, including a 4-0 mark at Comcast Center.
• The Terps are 13-15 in overtime games under Gary Williams.
