Maryland is in Third Place After Day One of Terp Cup

Maryland To Take On West Virginia

Maryland women's swimming and diving returns to action this weekend in an away meet against West Virginia University. The meet is set to take place this Saturday at 2:00 pm.

The Terps are coming off a third-place finish in the Terrapin Cup Invitational held November 16-18 in Maryland's Eppley Recreation Center. The Mountaineers also swam in the three-day meet, claiming a first place finish.

Maryland currently holds a 3-0 record overall and 2-0 record in the ACC, winning both at home and on the road. West Virginia is 3-2 overall so far this season.

Last time for the Terps:

- The Terps claimed a third-place finish with 370.5 points, behind West Virginia in first with 641.5 points and the University of Kansas in second with 609 points.

- Sophomore Yelena Skalinskaya (Almaty, Kazakhstan) and junior Maya Finkler (Rishon le-zion, Israel) placed fifth (23.78) and 12th (23.90) respectively in the 50-yard freestyle. Skalinskaya led the Terps in the 100 free placing 10th (51.54).

- Freshman Jackie Davidson (Beverly, Mass.) placed 21st in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.44. Freshman Andrea Lehner (Orchard Park, N.Y.) notched a third-place finish in the 500 free (4:55.14) and went on to place third in the 1650 free with an NCAA B cut time of 16:48.97.

- In the 100 breaststroke, junior Katarina Csomova (Komarno, Slovakia) led the Terps in 19th (1:07.24) and came in 24th place in the 200 breast with a time of 2:25.41.

- Lehner took third in the 100 backstroke (56.34) followed by Davidson in 13th with a 58.26. Lehner also led the Terps in the 200 back with a fourth-place finish (2:03.64)

- Freshman Annie Broome (Knoxville, Tenn.) led Maryland in the 100 butterfly with a fifth-place finish (56.57). Freshman Jen Vogel (Hingham, Mass.) came in ninth place (56.77) followed by senior Gigi deToll (Culpeper, Va.) in 12th (57.08) and freshman Nina Rossi (Princeton, N.J.) in 16th (58.04).

- Vogel was first overall in the 200 fly with an NCAA B cut time of 2:01.91. Rossi followed in 5th (2:04.17), Broome placed 7th (2:05.33) and freshman Patty DeScenza (Naperville, Ill.) took 8th (2:06.87).

- In the 200 individual medley Vogel was the top finisher for Maryland in 10th place (2:06.02) followed by junior Kirsten Jones (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) in 13th (2:08.61). Jones was the top finisher for the Terps in the 400 IM placing 10th (4:28.84) and Rossi finished 12th (4:30.21).

- Maryland placed third in the 200 free relay (1:34.74), sixth in the 400 medley relay (3:52.20), second in the 200 medley relay (1:46.42), second in the 800 free relay (7:30.24) and fourth in the 400 free relay (3:26.66).
