GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland senior Mike Jones (Dorchester, Mass./Thayer Academy) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday (Dec. 18). He became the second Terrapin to win the award this season, joining fellow senior D.J. Strawberry (Corona, Calif./Mater Dei) who won the award on November 20.
Jones set a new school record with nine three-pointers against the University of Missouri-Kansas City on December 13. The senior guard knocked down nine straight shots from beyond the arc after missing his first three field goal attempts. Jones' 13 three-point attempts tied a school record. He finished the game with a career-high 27 points, while adding five rebounds and three assists in the victory over the Kangaroos.
It is the second time in his career Jones has earned weekly honors from the ACC, as he was named Rookie of the Week on January 11, 2004. He ranks second on the team and 21st in the ACC in scoring with 13.7 points per game. Jones is third in the league in three-point field goals made per game (2.67) and three-point percentage (.457).
Maryland returns to action Saturday afternoon when the Terps host American University. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. The game can be heard on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network and is being televised by Comcast SportsNet.
