Williams & Krzyzewski To Wear Sneakers on Sidelines Saturday

Feb. 10, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland head coach Gary Williams and Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski will be wearing sneakers on the sidelines of Saturday's game between the Terrapins and second-ranked Blue Devils. The special footwear will be worn in recognition of National Coaches vs. Cancer Awareness Day.

Williams and Krzyzewski will be joining coaches across the country in using the "sneaker" symbol to convey to the college basketball community that the Coaches vs. Cancer program is alive and thriving after nine years. It has raised millions of dollars since its inception, and Williams has been one of the key national figures in the cause. He recently filmed a recruiting video aimed at attracting other coaches to join the program.

The coaches and their staffs are asking that everyone attending the game on Saturday - including fans and media - also wear sneakers as a show of support for the Coaches vs. Cancer Program.

The Philly Six Coaches vs. Cancer, in conjunction with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), organized the event.
