Nik Caner-Medley Earns NABC Second-Team All-District 5 Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland senior forward Nik Caner-Medley (Portland, Maine) was named Second-Team All-District 5 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on Thursday. Joining Caner-Medley on the second team are Curtis Withers (Charlotte), Eric Williams (Wake Forest), Cedric Simmons (NC State) and Brendan Winters (Davidson). The District 5 first team is comprised of JJ Redick (Duke), Shelden Williams (Duke), Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina), Sean Singletary (Virginia) and Justin Gray (Wake Forest).

Caner-Medley currently leads Maryland and ranks 14th in the ACC in scoring with 15.5 points per game, while also ranking among the league leaders in rebounding (17th-6.3 rpg), field goal percentage (10th-.471) and free throw percentage (8th-.805). He has scored in double figures in 21 games this season, including 11 straight, and has scored at least 20 points on six occasions. The Portland, Maine' native has played in 121 games at Maryland, including 107 starts during his four-year career.

Caner-Medley currently ranks 15th all-time at Maryland and 7th among active ACC players with 1,487 career points, while also ranking 22nd all-time at Maryland and 5th among active league players with 624 career rebounds. He is also in the Terps' record books for career 3-pointers (112-9th) and steals (138-11th). Caner-Medley recently became just the 11th player in school history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 100 steals.

As a junior, Caner-Medley led the Terps in scoring with 16.0 points per game en route to Third-Team All-ACC honors. He was also selected to the preseason 2005-06 Wooden Award list, which recognizes college basketball's player of the year at seasons' end.

The NABC selects All-District teams in 15 districts across the nation. The 150 student-athletes selected to the All-District teams (first and second teams) are now eligible for the NABC All-America teams. The All-America selections will be announced at the conclusion of the 2005-06 season.
