Maryland beat Old Dominion, 5-2, today at the Tennis Center at College Park. Maryland's record is now 6-3, 1-0 in the ACC.
Marianne Baker and Neda Mihneva started off for the Terps today in the first doubles slot. Baker and Mihneva easily slid by their opponent, 8-1. Jennifer Dent and Michal Amir played second for the Terps, also winning 8-3 and securing the doubles point for Maryland.
Baker also won in the first singles set of the day, 6-2, 6-0. Veronika Subertova played second for Maryland. While winning the first set, 7-6, Subertova could not hold on, losing the next two sets, 6-2, 6-3. Mihneva played third for the Terps, winning, 6-3, 6-2. The Terps were now up 3-1 in the match.
Playing fourth for Maryland was Dent. Dent won her first set easily 6-2 but then found trouble in the second, losing 6-7 (3). However, she pulled it out in the super tiebreaker, winning 10-6. Amir also won for the Terrapins, easily sliding by her opponent 6-4, 6-1. Last for the Terps was freshman Juliana Naso in her singles debut of the season. While winning 6-4 in the first set, Naso fell 7-6 in the second. But with the encouragement of her teammates, Naso pulled the win, 7-6.
Maryland will host William and Mary and Princeton next Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
