Final Stats
CLEMSON, S.C. -
No. 31 Maryland fell to No. 32 Clemson, 5-2, on Sunday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, S.C. Maryland won only one doubles match and two singles match. However, it was not enough to elevate them to victory. Maryland's record is now 9-7.
In the first doubles match, No. 13 Marianne Baker and Ramona But barely lost in a close match to No. 9 Carol Salge and Federica van Adrichem, 9-7. No. 54 Michal Amir and Jennifer Dent were also defeated by No. 49 Daniela Alvarez and Alexandra Luc, 8-1. Clemson was now up 1-0 against Maryland.
In the singles, No. 59 But played first for the Terps. After winning 6-1 in the first set, But fell 3-6 in the second. However, But came back, winning the third set 6-3, and the match. Maryland was now tied 1-1 with Clemson.
No. 91 Baker played second for Maryland, falling to No. 125 Carol Salge, 6-3, 6-3. Veronika Subertova also fell to No. 45 Federica van Adrichem, 6-2, 6-2.
In the fourth set, Neda Mihneva played No. 113 Maria Brito. After winning the first set 6-1, Mihneva fell in the next two sets, 6-3, 7-5. The match was now decided with Clemson being victorious. Fifth singles Dent barely fell in the first set, 7-6 (4). However, Dent was unable to recover, losing the second set, 6-3.
Playing sixth for Maryland was Amir. Amir easily slid by her opponent, 6-2, 6-2. This marked the second and last singles victory for the Terps.
The Women's Team will play at North Carolina on April 1 and at Duke on April 2.
