
Sixth-Seeded Maryland Takes Two-Game Win Streak To ACC Tourney in Greensboro

Sixth-seeded Maryland (18-11, 8-8 ACC) returns to the Greensboro Coliseum for the first time since winning the 2004 ACC Championship when the Terps take on 11th-seeded Georgia Tech in the first round of the 53rd Annual ACC Tournament Thursday at 9:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast regionally on Raycom/JP Sports with Tim Brant and Mike Gminski on the call. The winner advances to play No. 3 Boston College Friday at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
Maryland enters the tournament on a two-game win streak after sweeping Virginia with a 71-70 win Sunday in the final game at University Hall. Nik Caner-Medley led the Terps with 16 points (12-12 FT), while Mike Jones scored 13, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 1:13 to play. Maryland had 21 assists on 25 field goals and held UVA scoreless the final 2:09.
The Terps are led by Caner-Medley (15.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg), who is averaging 16.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in ACC play and recently earned Third-team All-ACC honors. Junior point guard D.J. Strawberry (10.1 ppg, 3.9 apg, 1.8 spg) directs the Maryland attack, while junior forward Ekene Ibekwe (11.1 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.3 bpg) and sophomore center James Gist (8.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.4 bpg) man the paint. Jones (10.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg), who is averaging 13.7 points the last 12 games as a starter, rounds out the Terps' starting five.
Georgia Tech (11-16, 4-12 ACC) enters the tournament having lost four of five games, including a 95-82 defeat at Clemson in the ACC finale on Saturday. Maryland swept the Yellow Jackets in the regular season, winning 86-74 in Atlanta and 87-74 in overtime at Comcast Center.
