COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland will host Hampton on Nov. 7 in the 2006 regular-season opener in the first round of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer, the nation's premier season-opening college basketball tournament. New Orleans will face Vermont in the other College Park Regional contest. The Regional consolation and championship games will be played Nov. 8. The winner of each Regional Round will compete for the championship at Madison Square Garden in New York City, Nov. 16 and 17. Click here for a complete bracket.

The Classic has featured three of the past five NCAA Champions. Last year, Florida defeated Syracuse, 75-70, in the championship game and eventually captured its first national title.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program, created by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, exists to leverage the strength, community leadership and celebrity of the country's basketball coaches to raise awareness and reduce cancer risk through education programs while raising funds. Since 1996, the event has raised approximately $3.3 million for the benefit of Coaches vs. Cancer.
