Maryland looks to pick up its first win of 2007 when the Terrapins face Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson on January 13 at Comcast Center. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. The game can be heard on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network and will be televised by ESPNU.
The Terps carry a mark of 14-3 into the contest, while Clemson is 17-0.
Maryland senior D.J. Strawberry leads the Terps with 15.6 points per game. He is 14th in the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring. Sophomore guard K.C. Rivers leads the Tigers with 15.0 points per game. Junior forward James Mayes averages 12.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest.
Saturday's game marks the 131st meeting between the two schools. Maryland leads the all-time series 84-46. The Tigers claimed the only meeting between the two schools last year with a 89-77 victory in Clemson.
Maryland holds a 49-10 advantage in College Park. The Terps are 2-1 against Clemson at Comcast Center.
Maryland has displayed a balanced offensive attack this season. The Terps boast the thirdhighest scoring average in the league (80.4 ppg), and have four players averaging double figures.
Strawberry leads the team with 15.6 points per game. Mike Jones is averaging 13.8 points per game, while James Gist has tallied 11.6 points per game. Ekene Ibekwe is averaging 10.8 points.
Strawberry and Jones have each led the team in scoring on seven occasions. Ibekwe has led the Terps in the scoring column in three games this season.
Maryland has outscored its opponents by an average of 17.9 points per game this season. That is the second best scoring margin in the ACC behind North Carolina (23.9).
The Terrapins are tied for first in the ACC in three point field goal percentage (.393) with Georgia Tech. Maryland is fourth in the league in made three pointers per game (6.6 3fg).
Maryland suffered a 63-58 setback to Miami on Wednesday (January 10) at
Comcast Center. Mike Jones led all scorers with 17 points, including
8-of-11 from the free throw line. James Gist added 10 points and nine
rebounds, while Ekene Ibekwe tallied 10 points and eight rebounds in the
loss.
Maryland was held to a season-low 13 field goals against the
Hurricanes. The Terps shot just 22 percent (13-of-58) for the game from
the field.
With eight rebounds against Miami, Ekene Ibekwe moved into eighth
place on the school's all-time rebounding list. Ibekwe has 642 career rebounds at Maryland.
James Gist recorded three blocked shots against Miami and moved into
a tie for tenth place with Obinna Ekezie on the school's all-time blocked
shots list. Gist has 125 career blocked shots.
Gist knocked down two shots from three-point range against the Hurricanes. He has four three pointers in his last five games. Prior to that he did not record a three-point shot in his first 75 games as a Terrapin.
The Terps have made a renewed commitment to defense in 2006-07.
Maryland has forced its opponents into an average of 18.5 turnovers per
