
Terps Set To Face UNC On The Road

Maryland women's swimming and diving, currently ranked fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference, will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. this weekend for conference competition against No. 2 in the ACC, North Carolina. The dual will take place this Saturday, January 27th at UNC's Maurice J. Koury Natatorium. The meet will begin at 11:00 a.m. Swimming World Magazine highlights the dual for this week's "Meet of the Week" feature.
The Terrapins are coming off of a win against Georgia Tech (136-94) and loss against Virginia Tech (160-77) in last weekend's meet held in Blacksburg, Va. Maryland is now 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference for this season on the women's side. The Terps' first meet against ACC teams occurred in November; Maryland was victorious over both Duke and N.C. State.
North Carolina holds a 4-0 conference record for this season on the women's side. The Tar Heels have defeated Duke, Clemson, Virginia and N.C. State in ACC action this year. UNC is currently 7-1 for this season. North Carolina is coming off of a recent win against N.C. State on January 23rd.
Freshman Andrea Lehner (Orchard Park, N.Y.) continues to lead the Terps, maintaining a position in the ACC's top-ten times in seven events. Lehner is ranked in the 100-yard freestyle (3rd), 200 free (4th), 500 free (9th), 1650 free (7th),100 backstroke (4th), 200 back (6th), and 200 individual medley (6th). Lehner has swam NCAA B-cut times in five events so far this season: 100 free (50.37), 200 free (1:49.65), 1650 free (16:48.97), 200 back (2:00.39) and 200 IM (2:03.73).
Also ranked in the ACC is sophomore Yelena Skalinskaya (Almaty, Kazakhstan) in the 50 free (10th) and the 100 free (6th). Skalinskaya swam an NCAA B-cut time in the 100 free (50.83).
Freshman Jen Vogel (Hingham, Mass.) and freshman Nina Rossi (Princeton, N.J.) stand in 6th and 9th respectively in the ACC for the 200 butterfly while Vogel also maintains a rank of 7th in the 100 fly. Vogel made an NCAA B-cut time with her season best of 2:01.91 in the 100 fly.
Senior Sasha Malanina (Volgograd, Russia) leads the Terps in the 400 IM with the second-highest time in the ACC this season, an NCAA B-cut time of 4:21.37. Malanina is the defending ACC Champion in the event.
Last Weekend for the Terps:
-Maryland picked up a win against Georgia Tech (136-94) and fell to Virginia Tech (160-77).
-The Terps finished first in the 400 free relay (3:30.66) and second in the 400 medley relay (3:51.33).
-Maryland claimed the top-two finishes in the 200 free with Lehner in first (1:50.75) and junior Maya Finkler (Rishon-le-zion, Israel) in second (1:51.91). Lehner also won the 500 free (4:57.08).
-Skalinskaya swam to second in both the 50 free (24.01) and 100 free (52.53).
-Malanina led the Terps in the 200 IM (2:08.37) and took fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.08).
-The Terps dominated the 200 butterfly with Vogel winning the event in 2:06.04 and Rossi in second (2:06.46).
