COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Gary Williams and the 2007-08 Maryland men's basketball team met with members of the media on Thursday (October 11) as part of the 2007 Media Day. The Terrapins entertained and spoke with media from the D.C. metro area a day before their season begins with Maryland Madness.
Coach Williams started the day by addressing over 50 members of the media in Heritage Hall. Following a 45 minute press conference, players and coaches spoke with print and electronic media on the floor of Comcast Center.
"This year's team is an interesting group because we have four players who returned with quite a bit of experience," head coach Gary Williams said. "Quite a few of those guys were starting players for us and then we have a good group of new players. I am very fortunate and our coaches are very fortunate because we have guys that we want to coach. The veterans demand that the other players play hard, and that makes my job a lot easier. I am really proud of the way our returning players have handled things so far this fall."
The Terrapins return seven lettermen from last year's squad which finished 25-9 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Thursday's media day marked the official introduction of seven newcomers, including Adrian Bowie, Braxton Dupree, Dino Gregory, David Pearman, Cliff Tucker, and Shane Walker.
The Terps make their debut to the public at Comcast Center on Friday night (October 12) at Maryland Madness. Doors for the event open 6:30 p.m. with events beginning at 8:00 p.m. The men's basketball team will be introduced shortly after 10:00 p.m.
Maryland opens the season with an exhibition contest against Concordia University November 7. The Terrapins raise the curtain on the regular season Sunday, November 11, when they take on North Florida in the opening round of the 2007 O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic.
