COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Head coach Cathy Reese has announced that seniors Dana Dobbie, Kelly Kasper, and Katie Pumphrey will serve as tri-captains for the Maryland women's lacrosse team in 2008. The group will lead an experienced Terrapins team that went 16-4 in 2007 and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals. Maryland returns 23 players from that team including eight of its starters.
Dobbie, a transfer from Ohio last season who exploded offensively, was a first team All-American, the ACC Player of the Year, and a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy. The Canadian National Team member scored 53 goals and had 69 points which were both second on the team. She was fourth in the nation with 3.95 draw controls per game with a total of 79. Dobbie also picked up a team-best 39 ground balls and was third on the team with 24 caused turnovers.
Along with Dobbie, Kasper was a force all over the field for the Terps in 2007. She was second on the team with 22 assists and third with 48 points while adding 26 goals of her own. She led the team with 31 caused turnovers while securing 28 draw controls and 24 ground balls. Kasper was a second team All-American and an All-ACC selection.
Pumphrey solidified her spot on the Maryland defense in 2007 as she started 19 of the 20 games she played in. The only game she did not start was on Senior Day. She was fourth on the team with 34 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers. Pumphrey also added a goal, the first of her career, at Virginia Tech.
