Hampton Cruises Past Tulsa, 72-55

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Vincent Simpson scored a game-high 25 points, with Rashad West adding 22 as Hampton defeated Tulsa, 72-55, in the first game of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic men's basketball tournament being hosted by the University of Maryland.
The Pirates will face the winner of Sunday's late first-round game between North Florida and the host Terrapins. Maryland will play at 9 p.m. on Monday regardless of its opponent.
Matthew Pilgrim also chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds for Hampton, which shot 50 percent in the second half to preserve the win.
Ben Uzoh had 13 points and Glenn Andrews added a dozen off the bench for Tulsa.
Hampton took a 34-28 halftime lead behind 14 points from West. The Pirates forced the Golden Hurricane into 11 turnovers before halftime. The Pirates went on a six-point run midway through the first half to take a 20-13 advantage. Andrews hit a three-pointer for Tulsa to pull the Golden Hurricane within 27-25, but Hampton extended its edge to halftime.
Hampton took control of the second half with a 20-1 run that gave the Pirates a 57-34 edge with 12:00 to play. Simpson went 5-for-7 from the floor after halftime with a pair of three-pointers to lead the Pirates with 17 second-half points.
