
Terrapins Play Host to Lehigh

The University of Maryland (3-2) takes on the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (2-2) Friday afternoon (November 23) at Comcast Center. Tipoff between the Terps and Mountain Hawks is set for 4:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broacast on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network and will be televised on Comcast SportsNet.
Friday's game marks just the second meeting between the two schools. Maryland holds a 1-0 lead in the all-time series.
The Terps and Mountain Hawks have not met since December 8, 1970 when the Terrapins posted an 85-66 victory in College Park.
Maryland dropped an 84-70 decision to Missouri in the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic Tuesday night. The Mountain Hawks saw their two-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to Albany 78-66 Tuesday.
Maryland head coach Gary Williams is the seventh-winningest active head coach in NCAA Division I men's basketball with an overall record of 588-330 (.641). He ranks second among active ACC coaches with 381 wins at Maryland (3rd overall) and also ranks second among active league coaches with 157 ACC victories. Williams is the Terps' all-time winningest coach.
Williams is just 12 wins shy of 600 career victories. Only five active head coaches in Division I have 600 career wins.
Maryland returns to action Wednesday, November 28 when the Terps host Illinois as part of the annual Big 10/ACC Challenge. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Comcast Center.
The Terrapins are in a stretch in which they will play eight of their next nine games at home beginning with Friday's game against Lehigh.
Four Terrapins scored in double figures as the Terrapins fell to Missouri, 84-70, in the consolation game of the 2007 O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic. Sophomore Greivis Vasquez paced the Terps with 17 points. He added eight rebounds and four assists in 40 minutes against the Tigers.
Senior James Gist added 12 points and six rebounds against Missouri. It was the 51st time in his career that Gist scored in double figures.
Senior Bambale Osby tallied 11 points and five rebounds against Missouri. Osby has scored in double figures in four of five games for the Terrapins this season.
Guard Eric Hayes recorded 10 points and seven rebounds Tuesday night. Hayes dished out six assists and tallied one steal against the Tigers.
Four of Maryland's five starters are among the top 23 players in the ACC for minutes played per contest. Senior Greivis Vasquez leads the league, averaging 37.2 minutes per contest.
Sophomore guard Eric Hayes is fourth in the ACC in minutes per game (35.4), while senior James Gist is ninth (32.75). Senior Bambale Osby has averaged 28.00 minutes per game, which ranks 23rd in the ACC.
Maryland received National Letters of Intent from forward Augustus Gilchrist (Temple Hills, Md./Progressive Christian HS) and guard Sean Mosley (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) during the fall signing period.
Gilchrist is rated the No. 14 power forward in the nation by Rivals.com. He averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots per game as a senior.
Mosley is ranked the No. 13 shooting guard by the scouting service. A two-time Nike All-American, Mosley averaged 24 points, 10 rebounds and six assists per game as a junior at St. Frances Academy.
After falling to Missouri in the consolation game of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic, the Terps are now 102-40 (.718) all-time in regular season tournaments and have won 28 championships. Maryland captured the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic Championship last season with a 62-60 victory over Michigan State at Madison Square Garden.
Former Maryland head coach Lefty Driesell is one of eight
honorees who were inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame Sunday night.
Driesell compiled an overall record of 348-159 as head coach of the Terrapins from 1969-1986.
Over 41 seasons as a head coach, he guided four different teams (Davidson, Maryland, James Madison and Georgia State) to 786 victories.
Lefty's son and former Terrapin letterman, Chuck, is in his second season as an assistant coach for Maryland.
