
Swim/Dive To Finish Regular Season At Virginia

Maryland women's swimming and diving is set to close out the 2006-07 regular season this weekend. The Terrapins will travel to Charlottesville for a dual meet against the University of Virginia on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. The dual marks the last meet for Maryland before heading to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Championships beginning February 14th.
The Terps are currently fifth in the conference going into this weekend. After falling to ACC rival North Carolina last weekend, Maryland tallies a 3-2 conference record and 6-4 overall record.
Saturday, the Terps will face the Virginia Cavaliers, ranked No. 4 in the ACC. Virginia is 6-3 overall this season and holds a 4-1 conference record after defeating Clemson, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and Duke in regular season competition. Virginia also fell to conference rival North Carolina on January 20th. The Cavaliers are coming off of a mid-week win against Richmond on January 31st.
Maryland freshman Andrea Lehner (Orchard Park, N.Y.) established a season best in the 1000-yard freestyle last weekend, swimming the eighth-fastest time in the ACC (10:05.75). Also after last week's meet, Lehner maintained a spot in the ACC's top-ten times in the 100 free (third; 50.37), 200 free (fourth; 1:49.65), 500 free (ninth; 4:54.94), 1650 free (seventh; 16:48.97), 100 backstroke (fourth; 56.31), 200 back (fifth; 2:00.39) and 200 individual medley (sixth; 2:03.73). Lehner has made NCAA B-cut times in the 100 free, 200 free, 1650 free, 200 back and 200 IM.
Also ranked in the ACC for the sprint freestyle events is sophomore Yelena Skalinskaya (Almaty, Kazakhstan). Skaliniskaya is tenth in the 50 free (23.52) and sixth in the 100 free with an NCAA B-cut time of 50.83. Maryland has presence in the ACC's top ten for the 200 butterfly with freshman Jen Vogel (Hingham, Mass.) in sixth with an NCAA B-cut time of 2:01.91 and freshman Nina Rossi (Princeton, N.J.) in ninth (2:03.94). Vogel is also seventh for the 100 fly (56.18). Senior Sasha Malanina (Volgograd, Russia) continues to maintain her second-place standing in the 400 individual medley with an NCAA B-cut time of 4:21.37.
Last Weekend For The Terps:
-Maryland fell to North Carolina 205-83.
-The Terps won the 200 medley relay (1:45.95) and placed second in the 200 free relay (1:35.45).
-Skalinskaya won the 50 free (23.66).
-Lehner took first in the 100 free (51.41) and also won the 1000 free (10:05.75).
-Maryland took the top-two places in the 100 fly with Vogel in first (56.67) and freshman Annie Broome (Knoxville, Tenn.) in second (56.84).
-In the 200 fly, Malanina swam a 2:08.45, good for a third-place finish.
-Freshman Jackie Davidson (Beverly, Mass.) was the top finisher for the Terps in the 200 back (2:07.16) in third place.
-Rossi swam to a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.27).
