COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team defeated Boston College, 5-2, Sunday afternoon in the first Atlantic Coast Conference match of the season for both teams. No. 33 Maryland is now 6-0, while BC is 3-2.

At the No. 6 singles position, freshman Lisa Miller secured the win for the Terps with her straight-set victory over Gia Nafarette (6-0, 6-1), making the score 4-0. The Terps won four of the six singles matches and swept the doubles portion of the match. Maryland is now 17-1 in doubles play on the spring season.

Michal Amir defeated Lauren Cash (6-1, 6-1) in the No. 3 singles position. Amir is undefeated in both singles and doubles play this season.

Freshman Elyse Steiner also won by defeating Alina Sullivan (6-1, 6-1). Marianne Baker, who is ranked No. 75 nationally in singles, beat Dasha Cherkasov (6-2, 6-4) in the No. 2 singles position.

Playing at the No. 5 singles slot, Maggie MacKeever lost a tight tiebreaker match to Brittany Delaney (6-1, 5-7, 1-0 [14-12]). In the No. 1 singles slot, Eleanor Peters lost to Lana Krasnopolsky (6-2, 6-2).

The Terps dominated the doubles portion of the match to earn one point. Peters and Baker defeated Cash and Cherkasov (8-2), while freshmen Miller and Steiner beat Delaney and Nafarette (8-5). The doubles win was finished off by Amir and MacKeever, who beat Sullivan and Krasnopolsky (8-4).

Maryland will travel to Williamsburg, Va., on Wednesday to face William & Mary (3 p.m.). The Terps will return home next weekend to play host to Richmond at 1 p.m. Saturday and Virginia Commonwealth at noon Sunday. Both matches will take place at the Tennis Center at College Park.
