GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of Maryland junior right-hander Kevin Biringer was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Pitcher of the Week today, after his one-hit performance in Sunday's 10-4 victory against Creighton in the Winthrop Challenge. The Albuquerque, N.M., native notched his second career victory as he held the Bluejays scoreless through five innings.
Biringer took the mound on Sunday in just his second career start, and responded by retiring the first nine batters he faced before allowing a leadoff single in the fourth. The hit represented the lone baserunner allowed by Biringer on the day, as he struck out five in his outing.
He is the 13th Terrapin to receive the league's weekly pitching honor, and the first to do so since Brett Tidball earned the award exactly one year ago after the first weekend of the season.
Biringer and the Terps return to action Friday as they travel to Orlando, Fla., for a three-game series at Central Florida. First pitch against the Golden Knights is set for 6:30 p.m.
