
Four Terps Named All-Americans By Inside Lacrosse

BALTIMORE, Md. - Four Maryland women's lacrosse student-athletes have been named to the Inside Lacrosse Women's Division I preseason All-American list, announced today. Senior Becky Clipp and junior Kelly Kasper were placed on the second team while senior Krista Pellizzi and junior transfer Dana Dobbie were named to the third team.
Clipp, selected as a team captain for the 2007 season, was an IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America Second Team selection after last season and was an All-ACC honoree. She has started every game the last two seasons for the Maryland defense, causing 54 turnovers and grabbing 103 ground balls in those years. Last season, she forced 31 turnovers, which was second on the team, and picked up a team-best 58 ground balls.
Kasper is the Terps' top-returning scorer from a year ago and was also an IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America Second Team and All-ACC selection. Kasper is a force in all aspects of the game as she led Maryland with 27 assists, 62 draw controls, and 42 caused turnovers. She was second on the team with 44 goals and third with 44 ground balls. Kasper scored a goal and caused a turnover in every game last season.
Pellizzi was an IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America Third Team member in 2006 and an All-ACC selection. Much like Kasper, Pellizzi makes an impact in many facets of the game as she was second on the team with 22 assists and 37 draw controls. She was also third with 43 goals.
Dobbie, a transfer from Ohio University, was a two-time All-American Lacrosse Conference First Team honoree and was a second-team all-region selection as a sophomore. In 2005, she led the nation in draw controls at 5.14 per game and secured a total of 72 in 14 games. She also led the Bobcats with 37 goals and 13 assists.
Maryland opens the 2007 season on Monday, February 19 when it travels to UMBC for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
