COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Due to the cancellation of Ohio University's 2007 lacrosse season, the Maryland women's lacrosse team will now open the season at UMBC on Monday, February 19 at 3:00 p.m. Fans can get their first glimpse of the 2007 squad when the Terrapins host the English national team on Tuesday, February 13 at 4:00 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
Ohio announced on January 25 that it was discontinuing its women's lacrosse, men's swimming and diving, and men's indoor and outdoor track and field teams at the end of the 2007 season. The decision to cancel the Bobcats' season came after it was determined that there were not enough student-athletes to field a team this year.
Maryland and UMBC have not met since the 2001 season when the Terps won 23-2 in College Park. The last time the two met in Baltimore was in 1995 with Maryland taking an 11-2 decision. The Terps own a 7-0 record all-time against the Retrievers.
