COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team, ranked No. 67 nationally, lost to No. 8 Clemson, 5-2, Sunday in an Atlantic Coast Conference match held at the Tennis Center at College Park.

The Terrapins fell to 7-6 on the season and 1-2 in the ACC, while the Tigers improved to 11-2 on the year and 3-0 in the conference.

Seniors Marianne Baker and Brooke Rogers won at the No. 2 doubles position, 8-2, over Clemson's Carol Salge and Estefania Balda. The Tigers won the two other doubles matches to earn one point.

Baker and Rogers both won their singles matches. Baker, No. 116, defeated No. 80 Salge, 6-3, 6-0, at the No. 1 singles position, while Rogers beat Ina Hadziselimovic (6-4, 1-6, 10-3) at the No. 5 singles slot.

Maryland sophomore Michal Amir lost to Ani Mijacika at the No. 2 singles position (6-2, 6-7, 6-2). Freshman Maggie MacKeever dropped a close match to No. 93 Frederica van Adrichem at the No. 4 singles slot (7-6, 7-5). Lisa Miller lost to Maria Brito at the No. 6 position (6-4, 6-2), while Elyse Steiner fell to Balda, who is ranked No. 63, (6-3. 6-1) at the No. 3 singles spot.

Maryland continues ACC play when it plays host to North Carolina at 3 p.m. Friday March 23 and Duke at 10 a.m. Sunday March 25. Both matches will take place at the Tennis Center at College Park.
