COLLEGE PARK, Md. - James Madison shortstop Davis Stoneburner homered twice while the Dukes grabbed an early 11-run advantage as they defeated Maryland Tuesday afternoon at Shipley Field, 13-6. Maryland (11-5) suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season, while James Madison (3-13) captured its second win in a row.

Dukes starter Trevor Kaylid (1-0) picked up the win after tossing five and one-thirds innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. For the Terps, starter Nick Pearce (0-1) took the loss. Dustin Crouch pitched three and two-thirds innings to pick up his first save of the year.

Maryland found itself in the hole right away, as the Dukes put two runs on the board in the opening stanza. Right fielder Kellen Kulbacki doubled to right field while left fielder Mitchell Moses hit a sacrifice fly to put JMU up, 2-0.

In the bottom half of the first, Maryland responded with a Mike Murphy double to score leadoff hitter Joe Palumbo, who singled to reach base, closing the margin to one run.

However, the Terps would get no closer as they allowed their second big inning in as many games. The Dukes added six runs to their tally in the second inning to take an 8-1 lead. Stoneburner struck first with his three-run home run to left center field. After Pearce exited, James Madison added three additional runs in the inning, capped off by Lee Bujakowski's two-RBI double.

JMU plated four more runs before the Terps responded in the bottom of the fourth inning, when designated hitter Jon Greenwich blasted a double to left field, scoring Dan Benick and Chad Durakis. Greenwich finished his day 3-for-4 with three RBIs in his first start of the season.

The Terps closed the gap to seven runs in the sixth, when Greenwich doubled to right, scoring Durakis. Second baseman Steve Braun singled through the middle to score Greenwich two batters later.

The Dukes added one more run to the ledger in the eighth as Matt Browning's double off the center field wall left the score at 13-5. Maryland responded in the bottom of the ninth with Murphy's RBI single, but a double play ended the threat and the game

On the mound, freshman Ian Schwalenberg had an excellent day, pitching two perfect innings of relief and striking out two batters after a shaky outing on Sunday at NC State.

Maryland will look to rebound Wednesday when they host Coppin State at Shipley Field for a 4 p.m. contest.
