COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team, ranked No. 71 nationally, lost to ACC rival No. 15 Duke Sunday afternoon, 6-1, at the Tennis Center at College Park.

The Terrapins fell to 8-7 on the season and 1-4 in conference play, while the Blue Devils improved to 9-3 on the season and 4-0 in the ACC.

Sophomore Michal Amir defeated No. 59 Melissa Mang at the No. 2 singles position (6-4, 6-3). Senior Marianne Baker, ranked No. 88, lost a close match to No. 52 Daniela Bercek (6-7, 6-4 {10-8}) at the No. 1 singles spot.

Senior Brooke Rogers fell to Tory Zawacki (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 4 singles position, while senior Masha Senic also lost to Jessi Robinson (6-2, 6-2). Freshman Elyse Steiner dropped her match to Amanda Granson (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 3 singles slot, and freshman Maggie MacKeever lost to Clelia Deltour (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 5 singles position.

The Terps were swept in the doubles portion of the match. Baker and Rogers lost to Bercek and Mang, 8-2. Amir and freshman MacKeever fell to Robinson and Granson, 8-2, while Steiner and Eleanor Peters also lost to Elizabeth Plotkin and Kristin Cargill, 8-4.

Maryland will travel south next weekend to face North Carolina State at noon Saturday at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center and No. 14 Wake Forest at noon Sunday at Leighton Stadium.
