Terps Earn Fifth Seed in ACC Tourney

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After posting a record of 24-7 (10-6 ACC) the Maryland men's basketball team tied for third place in the ACC regular season standings and has earned the fifth seed in the 2007 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament. The Terrapins will face the No. 12 seed Miami Hurricanes on Thursday (March 8) at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla. The game can be heard on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network and will be televised by the Raycom/Lincoln Financial Network. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., following the opening game between eighth seeded Clemson and No. 9 Florida State.

The winner of Thursday's opening round game between the Terps and Hurricanes will advance to face the fourth-seeded Boston College Eagles Friday (March 9) at 2:00 p.m. North Carolina earned the top seed in the tournament, while Virginia claimed the second seed. Virginia Tech is the No. 3 seed. Georgia Tech, the sixth seed, will face No. 11 Wake Forest on Thursday. Duke earned the No. 7 seed and will take on No. 10 NC State in the opening round.

Maryland has an overall record of 41-49 in the ACC Tournament. The Terps have won at least one game in the ACC Tournament 29 times, which ranks fourth among member schools. The last time the Terps earned the No. 5 seed was in 1997 when they downed Clemson (76-61) in the first round before falling to NC State (65-58) in the second round.
