Terps Open Homestand Against In-State Foes

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapins host a pair of non-conference opponents this week, as fellow Free State schools Towson and Maryland-Eastern Shore visit Shipley Field on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Both games are set to begin at 7 p.m., with live radio coverage being provided by WMUC Sports.

TOWSON SERIES HISTORY
The Terps lead in the all-time series, 32-25-2 (.559). Four weeks ago, the Tigers outlasted the Terps, 7-6, in 11 innings at Schuerholz Park in Towson. Maryland dropped their first game in 2006 to the Tigers, 9-2, before bouncing back with a pair of home wins, 5-3 and 8-3.

UMES SERIES HISTORY
Maryland leads all-time 34-1 (.971). Earlier this year, the Terps notched a 16-2 victory over the Hawks. Last year, the Terps swept the Hawks in a doubleheader on May 10, 5-1 and 3-2. The Terps have not lost to UMES since March 29, 1995, a 11-4 Hawks victory in College Park.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Towson enters Tuesday's game with a 17-23 record. Kyle Skellchock is the top Tiger hitter, batting .381 with 12 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, and 33 RBIs. Skellchock is the reigning CAA Player of the Week. Travis Tyler has been the top reliever, as he has a 4.40 ERA and a 2-3 record in 18 appearances.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS
UMES returns to College Park with a 9-36 record. Joel Gonzalez leads the offense with a .414 average and 10 doubles, one triple, one home run and 28 RBIs. Dustin Longchamps is the top hurler, with a 4.60 ERA and a 3-9 record.

UP NEXT
Maryland hosts ACC rival Florida State this weekend. Game times are 7 p.m. Friday, and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the Terps will honor four seniors as part of Senior Day festivities.
