COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Three Maryland women's lacrosse student-athletes were named to the 2007 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, announced on July 23. Mollie Reese, who graduated in the spring, senior Katie Princiotto, and junior Jenny Collins were each recognized for their work in the classroom.
The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association recognized 410 student-athletes in all three divisions for their achievements in the classroom. In Division I, 157 women from 57 schools were honored.
Princiotto, who majors in communication, had a career year as a junior. The Horseheads, N.Y. native exploded for a team-best 26 assists while adding 19 goals. Prior to the 2007 season, she had recorded 21 goals, all in 2006, and no assists. Princiotto's 1.30 assists per game average ranked fourth in the ACC. She was also named to the All-ACC Academic Team in 2006 and 2007.
Reese, who majored in elementary education, appeared in 14 games for the Terrapins and recorded three goals and four assists in 2007. The Monkton native became just the second Terp in history to win the ACC Freshman of the Year award when she did it in 2004. That season, she recorded eight goals and three assists while picking up 24 ground balls. She was an All-ACC Academic Team selection in 2006.
Collins, a kinesiology major from Lansdale, Pa., played in nine games for Maryland and found the back of the net in games against Brown and Loyola, the first two goals of her career.
The 2007 Terps finished the season 16-4 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, the farthest Maryland has advanced in the postseason since 2004.
