GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland senior forward James Gist (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday (January 21). It is the first time in his career Gist has earned the weekly honor, after being earning All-ACC honorable mention plaudits following the 2006-07 season. Wake Forest's James Johnson was named the ACC Rookie of the Week.

Gist helped the Terps finish 2-0 last week as he averaged 16.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocked shots and 2.5 assists per game. The senior forward tallied 10 points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots and three assists in Maryland's 71-64 victory over Wake Forest last Wednesday.

He followed that performance with his fifth "double-double" of the season when he tallied 22 points, 13 rebounds and two assists as Maryland downed No. 1 North Carolina, 82-80, Saturday afternoon. Gist finished 9 of 18 from the field against the Tar Heels and was 3 of 4 from the free throw line. He shot 44 percent from the floor for the week and connected on 9 of 10 free throws.

Maryland (12-7, 2-2 ACC) returns to action Sunday (January 27) when the Terps host the Duke Blue Devils at Comcast Center. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network, and will be televised nationally by Fox SportsNet.
