Terps Strong in Second Intrasquad Scrimmage

Oct. 29, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - - Four players scored more than 20 points Wednesday in the University of Maryland's second men's basketball intrasquad scrimmage at Comcast Center.

Eric Hayes led all scorers with 28 points on 12-for-18 shooting from the floor. Hayes, playing the point-guard position for both the Red and Black teams, had seven assists, three steals and only three turnovers in 40 minutes of action.

Cliff Tucker added 27 points, hitting 10 of 15 from the floor, and four steals, while Braxton Dupree had 25 points and 12 rebounds in an effort that included an 11-for-12 performance at the free throw line.

Landon Milbourne finished with 24 points, seven rebounds and three assists, going 6-for-6 at the line. As a team, the 12 Maryland players hit 88 percent at the line, hitting 43 of 49 foul shots.

Greivis Vasquez had a team-high 10 assists and 16 points, with Adrian Bowie also scoring 16 points with nine assists.

Sean Mosley (14 points) and Dave Neal (12 points) also had double figures in scoring, while Dino Gregory added nine rebounds and Jerome Burney had six blocked shots.

Maryland opens its 2008-09 schedule on Saturday, Nov. 8 in an exhibition game against Northwood (Fla.) University.

Head Coach Gary Williams Quotes

"What you are in October has nothing to do with where you want to be in January. So every day, you're trying different things, you're trying to motivate them different ways. This is a tough time of year for the players. You practice very day and you don't really get the reward of playing games like you do once the season starts.

"I thought Braxton (Dupree) did a good job today of staying aggressive. He's gotten himself in much better shape, so that allows him to play longer, harder. He showed a little bit of that today and on Saturday.

"What we're trying to get is more consistency. So is everybody else this time of year. You're trying to get where you make consecutive really good plays, whether it's offense or defense."
