Maryland Still In Hunt for Team Titles After Day Two at Terp Cup

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland swimming and diving program picked up three individual first-place finishes to help stay both squads stay contention for team titles Friday on day two of the Terrapin Cup Invitational at Eppley Recreation Natatorium.

Junior Jen Vogel picked up another win this season in the 100 fly (53.86) while fellow teammate Annie Fittin captured the 100 backstroke (55.38) to help the Terrapin women's squad remain in first place heading into the final day of events Saturday. The Terps also swept the relays as Fittin, Nina Rossi, Vogel and Yelena Skalinskaya were victorious in the 200 medley (1:42.89), while the team of Vogel, Ginny Glover, Laura Wright and Rossi brought home the 800 free relay (7:26.97) in final race of the day for the women's side.

For the men, Mitch Challacombe came up with a big win for the Terps in the 100 back (49.96) while once again the Terrapin men were dominant in the 100 breast with Eric Cullen (56.44) and Andy Dilz (56.47) finishing second and third, respectively. Brian Honore also had a solid day in the pool, taking second in the 200 free (1:40.08). The men also captured the 200 medley relay (1:31.23), courtesy of the team of Challacombe, Cullen, Aleksander Damjanic and Dilz.

Saturday marks the end of the three-day event. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m. Due to football game-day parking, fans will be redirected to the Terrapin Trail Garage. Parking is $15.
