Maryland head coach Brenda Frese
Opening Statement:
"I am really pleased tonight with our defensive effort. I'm proud of the fact that we really challenged the team at halftime in terms of our defensive goals and seeing the ownership that we had defensively tonight. I really liked the unselfishness that we displayed. I thought that we were clicking on all cylinders on the offensive end. We were making the extra pass, getting the ball inside and outside. Each and every player was ready to step up and shoot the ball with confidence. This was a great game for us against a really good Boston College team. We are able to gain some momentum here with the last three games we have in ACC play."
On the quality of play:
"With what we have remaining in conference play, we really wanted to start completing games and playing hard for forty minutes. To be able to have the defensive intensity that we have, it transferred over to our offense. That's what we're looking for."
On the play of senior Ashleigh Newman:
"[Ashleigh Newman] gave us a great boost of energy tonight. She was really smart in getting her feet set and it is great to see Ashleigh back shooting it with good form."
Maryland senior Laura Harper
On setting the Maryland record for career blocks:
"It is definitely an honor to set any record at Maryland with the kind of caliber players that have come through the program."
Maryland senior Ashleigh Newman
On her breakout night:
"I had never lost any confidence. I had been working on my shot and technique. I knew it was going to fall eventually."
Boston College head coach Cathy Inglese
On the challenges of playing against Maryland:
"[Maryland] has such a balanced attack. We know that they have the ability to shoot from the outside. This does not surprise us. Once you get a shooting team like this into their groove, it's very hard to stop them. We were letting them step in and take the shots, rather than defending and blocking. It was frustrating for us not to be able to stop them tonight. We focused more on the inside game, though we knew that Strickland and Toliver could shoot from the outside."
On starting center Carolyn Swords' performance:
"Carolyn played amazingly against Maryland the first time we met, and we knew that she might not be able to get away with that a second time. I don't think Maryland focused in on her, but they just made it difficult for her. I was extremely proud of her play in the second half."
On starting forward Stefanie Murphy's performance:
"I think Stephanie had a tough night tonight. She needs to get herself back on track. When both Stefanie and Carolyn are playing well together, they are hard to stop. However, when just one of them is playing well and the other isn't, we are not in sync."
