Terps Tangle With Towson in Home Opener Tuesday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland baseball plays its home opener at 2 p.m. today against in-state rival Towson. The game can be heard online at wmucsports.com.
Scouting Towson
The Tigers split their first two games of the season last weekend at Saint Mary's in California with the two other scheduled games being postponed due to rain.
Senior first baseman Greg Furmanek leads Towson in hitting early this season, batting .375 with a home run and three RBIs.
Maryland leads the all-time series, 33-25. The teams split a pair of games last year, each winning at home. The Terps have not lost at home to the Tigers since 2005.
Tracking the Terps
Maryland plays its home opener today coming off a 1-2 weekend at the IMIChotels.com INN-vitational in Conway, S.C. The Terps lost a pair of games to host Coastal Carolina and rallied for a 10-5 win against Pittsburgh.
The Terps overcame an early 4-0 deficit to beat Pitt. Junior Jensen Pupa gave Maryland its first lead on a pinch-hit, two-run double in the sixth inning. Kevin Biringer pitched 3 2/3 solid innings of relief, allowing no earned runs to pick up the win. Senior Brett Tidball recorded the last out for his first career save.
Durakis breaks HBP record
Senior Chad Durakis was hit by three pitches last weekend, breaking Maryland's all time record with 37 in his career. If Durakis gets hit by nine or more pitches this season, he will move into the top 20 in NCAA history.
Casario on Wallace Watch List
Sophomore outfielder AJ Casario is on the Wallace Award Watch List, which is awarded annually to the best college baseball player in the country.
Spessard approaching triples record
Junior Gerry Spessard is two triples shy of the school record of eight, held by Ken Noe.
