No. 4 Women's Lacrosse Handles No. 16 James Madison, 16-10

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Kelly Kasper led all of Maryland's 10 point scorers with four goals and an assist as the No. 4 Maryland women's lacrosse team defeated No. 16 James Madison, 16-10, on March 8 at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

Senior Dana Dobbie recorded three goals and an assist while classmate Kate Princiotto had a goal and three assists. Senior Casey Magor notched a hat trick and sophomore Caitlyn McFadden contributed a goal and a pair of helpers. Sophomore Ali Perkins scored a goal and an assist off the bench.

Maryland jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead for the second-straight game. All four scores came from different players. McFadden had her two assists in the opening run and Kasper aided it with a goal and an assist.

James Madison scored its first goal at the 19:41 mark in the first half when Natasha Fuchs scored on a free-position opportunity. Dobbie added her second goal of the game to make it 5-1 but Emily Haller hit the Dukes' second free-position shot to cut the lead back to three with 17:39 to go.

The Terps got two more goals to push its lead to 7-2 as Magor and junior Kate Faas scored for Maryland. It was Faas' first goal as a member of the red and black.

The Dukes kept fighting back and scored consecutive goals to cut the deficit back to three when Kim Griffin scored and then Annie Wagner found the back of the net with 5:25 left in the half.

McFadden and Kasper added two more goals for the Terps before the halftime break as Perkins assisted on McFadden's goal and Dobbie hooked up with Kasper with just one second on the clock to give Maryland a 9-4 lead into the break.

In the second half, Maryland stayed comfortably ahead of the Dukes the entire way and at one point pushed its lead to nine, 15-6, with 9:20 remaining in the game on a goal from Perkins. James Madison would score four-straight goals from 8:10 to 1:18 to cut the lead to five, but that is as close as it would get. Haller recorded a goal and an assist in that stretch.

James Madison (1-3) was led by Fuchs who had a hat trick and an assist while Haller recorded two goals and a helper. Wagner and Julie Stone both added two goals while Kelly Wetzel recorded nine saves in the cage.

Maryland (4-1) returns to action on Wednesday, March 12 when it hosts Richmond at 7:00 p.m.
