The University of Maryland baseball team plays a pair of fellow University of Maryland system schools in non-conference play this week, beginning with a game at UMBC Tuesday night, followed by a home contest against UMES Wednesday.
The Terps (20-17) have won 11 straight non-conference games this season, dating back to their victory against Coppin State March 5. Maryland will be playing for the school record for consecutive non-conference wins Tuesday night against the Retrievers.
The Retrievers enter Tuesday's game with a 10-19 record and 5-5 mark at home. The two teams played a close game earlier this season with the Terps posting a 6-5, come-from-behind win on a three-run double in the seventh inning by Bill Rice (Washington Township, N.J./Washington Township).
The Terps have won three straight games against the Retrievers and 12 of the last 13. Maryland is 30-13-1 all-time against UMBC.
UMES is currently 5-28 on the season. Maryland owns a commanding 35-1 all-time record against the Hawks. Wednesday's game against the Hawks will be available on ACCSelect after the conclusion of the game on an on-demand basis only.
The Terps are led offensively by Nick Jowers (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic) and Mike Murphy (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep). Jowers is hitting a team-high .348 with a .461 on-base percentage. Murphy is the team leader in home runs with nine and shares the team lead with 30 RBIs.
