
Sixteen Maryland Baseball Players Exceeded 3.0 GPA Last Semester

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sixteen University of Maryland baseball players recorded grade-point averages above 3.0 last semester, exactly half the number of players on the active roster.
The 16 student-athletes include: seniors Kevin Biringer (Albuquerque, N.M./Bradley University), Chad Durakis (Cockeysville, Md./St. Paul's), Brett Tidball (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep), Joe Palumbo (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic), Mike Sufczynski (Darnestown, Md./St. John's) and Brad Taylor (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel).
Also joining the list were juniors Mike Murphy (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep), Will Greenberg (Gaithersburg, Md./Washington College) and Gerry Spessard (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg). Mike Rozak (Darnestown, Md./St. John's) and Scott Swinson (Ellicott City, Md./George Washington University) were the lone representatives of the sophomore class.
Freshmen Brett Harman (Westminster, Md./Westminster), Eric Potter (Odenton, Md./Arundel), Blair Delean (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall), Curtis Lazar (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) and Matt Quinn (North Wales, Pa./Mountain View) round out the list.
Of these 16 players, Biringer, Durakis, Murphy and Palumbo are eligible for ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-Region honors.
Biringer owns a cumulative GPA of 3.8 while Durakis, Murphy and Palumbo are all at 3.3 or better.
